Three Tune Tuesday - Suicide

Hello music lovers! 🎵

It's a Tuesday, time for #threetunetuesday, and a chance to share something I'm listening to.
My last post here was a week ago, and continuing with the music, I'm recalling memories from the past with you.

Today I remember Suicide, an electronic duo from New York, active from 1975 to 2016. It consisted of Alan Vega, vocalist, and Martin Rev, instrumentalist. Their music combined elements of punk, rock, industrial music, and electronica, and their raw and nihilistic approach laid the foundations for genres such as new wave and post-punk. They were the first to use the phrase "punk music" in a concert. The band never achieved any notable commercial success, but only later did music critics start to recognize them as one of the most influential bands of the era. As a band, they released five studio albums and several more independently. In the 1980s, the band enjoyed cult status in Europe and Japan. The first Suicide album, "Suicide" from 1977, was a manifestation of the DIY aesthetic, recorded in simple conditions, in four days, and released in a limited edition. It is considered one of the most influential electronic music albums of all time on all charts. Subsequent Suicide albums further explored their sonic boundaries and cemented their status as an underground icon. Their energetic and provocative live performances were legendary, often incorporating elements of body art and performance. The duo's influence can be felt across a wide spectrum of musical genres, from industrial music and noise rock to techno and hip hop. Alan Vega died in 2016 at the age of 78, and Martin Rev continues to work independently today.

For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.

🎵 🎧 🎵

To continue with the music, I have selected some songs.

Suicide - Girl (Remastered 2019)

The song is from the debut album Suicide from 1977. It's remastered in 2019, so here is this one with better sound. I chose it because their characteristic sound can already be heard here, the Farfisa organ with the addition of a primitive electronic drum and Vega's nervous voice, which doesn't say anything except the lust he feels.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Suicide - Wrong Decisions

The song is from their last album American Supreme from 2002, remastered and re-released two years ago by Mute Records. The sound is still minimalist, but more techno than on previous albums. This song also leans slightly towards hip-hop. Reactions at the time were mixed, but commercially it was not great. That's probably why they stopped performing together and pursued their separate careers.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Suicide - Why Be Blue

The song is from the fourth album of the same name from 1992, synth-pop, danceable enough to be played in some discotheques at the time.

Well, let's have a bonus :)

Suicide - Ghost Rider

Their most famous song, I think, is from their first album Suicide from 1977. This version is from 1981, a bit more punk-oriented, but I chose it because it shows in pictures both members and the typical New York underground music scene at that time.
There is also a well-known cover performed by the Rollins Band, used in the soundtrack for the film The Crow.

That's all for today, thank you for your attention. I hope today's selection was interesting and put you in a relaxed mood like it did me :)

This is my 44th post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started. I hope what I'm sharing is interesting for others too, because then it makes sense.
