Three Tune Tuesday π· John Zorn
Hello, music lovers! π΅
On #threetunestuesday, I reflect on the music I listened to growing up and the music I had access to. And when something reminds me of moments from my youth, I try to relive those memories through music.
Today I'm writing about a musician who, many years ago, completely changed my perspective on music.

For those of you who aren't (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt: these are the hashtags you need to use when posting. It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the gist is as follows:
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to, and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.
John Zorn is an American saxophonist, composer, and producer from New York. He began making music as a child (guitar, flute) and has been playing the saxophone since the late 1960s. He is one of the most important and influential contemporary (living) musicians. He is known for blending styles (free jazz, hardcore, punk, klezmer, film music, metal) and creating compositions guided by rules and signals rather than classical notation. He founded the Tzadik label and The Stone, a venue where he supports contemporary avant-garde and experimental music.
Through his work, he has influenced generations of musicians with bands such as Naked City, Masada, Painkiller, Moonchild, and The Dreamers, and he continues to push musical boundaries to this day.
I first saw him in 1992 at a concert in Ljubljana with the band Naked City. He was joined on stage by Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, Fred Frith, and Joey Baron. The sound and the music captivated me so much that for a while I couldnβt listen to anything else at all for some time.
A few tracks
John Zorn (Naked City) - Batman, Sicilian Clan
From their 1990 debut album Naked City, βBatmanβ is an original song by Zorn - a fast-paced, surf-punk-jazz explosion- and βThe Sicilian Clanβ is a cover of Ennio Morriconeβs spaghetti western theme, which the band reworks in their own chaotic style.
John Zorn - Arab And Jew
A highly hypnotic and atmospheric track with oriental influences; Zorn plays the electric piano. From the 2005 album Filmworks XV: Protocols Of Zion.
John Zorn - Little Bittern
From the 2009 album O'o, part of the The Dreamers series. John Zorn conducts and plays saxophone; Marc Ribot plays guitar; Trevor Dunn plays bass; Jamie Saft plays keyboards; and Joey Baron plays drums.
And as a bonus, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly from Filmworks I - 1986-1990, cover of Morricone piece, Zorn's version lasts exactly 1 minute and 4 seconds; he packed 12 different instruments and effects into it, and it sounds as if it were being played by a symphony orchestra.
That's all for now - keep enjoying the music and the summer heat! This is my 89th post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started. I hope what I'm sharing is enjoyable for others, too, because then it makes sense.
