It's Friday and time for #newtunes! Weekly selection of music featuring well-known, lesser-known, and even unknown artists who are trying to get a few minutes of our ears. Is there even a future global hit among them? You won't know until you listen :)

The Rolling Stones - In The Stars
A couple of weeks ago, I spotted a new Rolling Stones song on YouTube, which turned out to be a fake, AI-generated track—I think they’ve taken it down by now. But this one is actually theirs. "In The Stars" is the Rolling Stones’ new single and the lead track from their upcoming album, Foreign Tongues, set for release this July. A rock anthem about fate and love, with that signature Stones touch - a blend of romance, defiance, and observations of the world. Pop-rock with an energetic chorus, it evokes their ’80s sound while featuring modern production. Judge for yourself.
EUROPE - One on One
The Swedish hard-rock band, which rose to fame in the 1980s with the hit “The Final Countdown” and is still active today, announces its twelfth studio album, Come This Madness, set for release in September, with the new song “One On One.” High-flying classic hard rock. For the fans.
Kerala Dust - FEVER
I’ve been following Kerala Dust, an English band from London, since their beginnings in 2016. I like their blend of electronic music with influences from psych rock, southern rock, Americana, and blues. I’ve mentioned them several times in #newtunes. “Fever” is their latest single, released in late April. A typical track for them, even more downtempo, dreamy, and slightly dark, with techno and psych-blues-infused guitar riffs. Perfect for late nights, a drive, or a club set.
Opus Kink - The Head Tree ft. The New Eves
Opus Kink is an English post-punk, art, and jazz band from Brighton, active since 2017. I’ve mentioned them once before in #newtunes. They’re known for their energetic, chaotic live performances, where they mix styles and genres in a fresh, unpredictable way. So far, they’ve released a few singles and EPs, and we’re expecting their first studio album at the end of July this year. The song “The Head Tree” is a single released a week ago and a preview of their debut album, The Sweet Goodbye. It sounds a bit different, more disco-like and danceable, with a house beat and male-female vocals - the girls from the folk-rock band The New Eves are helping them out on this track. The song is about the last woman to be hanged as a witch in England.
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Don't Let It Control You
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats are an English band from Cambridge; they’ve been playing since 2009 and have released six albums to date. They’re known for their dark, occult rock and retro ’70s sound, reminiscent of a faster version of Black Sabbath, cult films, and horror aesthetics. The song “Don’t Let It Control You” is their first single in ten years; they released it at the end of April, and it heralds a new, seventh album. It’s fast-paced psych-garage-rock with fresh energy, and it’s about the struggle against inner demons.
These Wicked Rivers - Ain't No Smoke
These Wicked Rivers is a British rock band from Derbyshire; they’ve been performing since 2014 and have released two studio albums. They play a mix of classic rock, blues, southern rock, and heavy groove. This is the first time I’ve heard of them, and I’ll be following them from now on. The song “Ain’t No Smoke” was released eight days ago and heralds their third studio album, Fire in Folklore, coming in October. It’s a slow-burning, atmospheric rock song that builds like waves - from tension to a powerful chorus and a calm conclusion.
Antropoceno - Pe Rembi'urama
Antropoceno is an experimental project by Brazilian artist and environmental activist Lua Viana from São Paulo. She’s a new name to me. Antropoceno blends avant-garde black metal / post-metal with Brazilian rhythms (afoxé, candomblé, samba, capoeira), indigenous cosmology, ambient, shoegaze elements, and political-ecological themes. Two albums have been released as part of the project: Natureza Morta, released last year, and No Ritmo da Terra, released this past March. The song “Pe Rembi’urama” is from the new album, written in the ancient Tupi language and spoken from the perspective of a spirit or a sacrifice - “Aju-ne ixé, pe rembi’urama” means “Here I am, your future food.” Very powerful and provocative. I recommend the whole album because it’s very diverse.
Laibach - Love Machine (feat. Senidah)
Laibach, a Slovenian band and the musical branch of the NSK (Neue Slowenische Kunst) art collective, has been actively making music since 1980 and is known for its provocative, totalitarian aesthetic, irony, political commentary, and a mix of industrial, martial music, electronica, avant-garde, and pop. By the way, they are one of the few bands to have performed in North Korea. On May 1, they released their 20th album, Musick, their most pop-oriented album to date, yet still featuring the recognizable Laibach sound. The song “Love Machine,” featuring the sensual vocals of Senidah, a major trap star in the region, is from the new album and speaks of love as a machine.
