The Black Keys - She Does It Right
I often mention The Black Keys in #newtunes, either as a band I really admire or as the owners of the Easy Eye Sound label, which releases music I love. Well, they’ve announced a cover album for May, Preaches!. The song “She Does It Right” is a cover of a track by the British rock ’n’ roll band Dr. Feelgood, which was released in 1975 on their debut album. I was lucky enough to see them live way back in 1982 in Ljubljana. Rock 'n' roll, or as some say, energetic and raw pub rock with a signature guitar riff. A simple yet catchy tune that sticks in your head, about a woman who does “everything right” and completely captivates a man. The Black Keys’ version is a bit more “polished” with top-notch production, but still very garage-rock.
A Place To Bury Strangers - Song For Girl From Macedonia
A Place To Bury Strangers (APTBS) is an American band from Brooklyn, New York, active since 2003. They have released seven studio albums to date. They are known for their live performances, which are full of noise, distortion, strobe lights, and often the destruction of equipment on stage. Musically, they blend noise rock, shoegaze, post-punk, and psychedelic rock. The song 'Song For Girl From Macedonia' is their latest single, released four days ago; it is dedicated to a girl from Macedonia who was killed by a drunk driver. More minimalist than their standard noise songs, it features a catchy bass riff and carries a powerful emotional charge.
MONOLORD - You Bastard (Official Music Video)
Monolord is a Swedish trio from Gothenburg, formed in 2013. To date, they have released five studio albums. They play slow, heavy sludge-doom with ultra-low frequencies, repetitive riffs, and dark themes. The song 'You Bastard' is the first single and a preview of their sixth studio album, Neverending, which will be released in late May. The song is slightly faster than their classic doom, featuring a propulsive, groovy riff, and deals with the topic of suicide.
Radio Days - I Won't Give Up
Radio Days is an Italian trio from Genoa that has been active for 23 years. To date, they have released four albums. They play classic, melodic power pop with influences and harmonies from the 1960s (The Beatles, The Byrds). The song 'I Won't Give Up' is the first single from their new, fifth album, titled 'Off The Record,' which will be released in September. Classic power pop with a harmonious melody and a strong chorus, perfect for the radio.
The Black Moods - Time Bomb (Official Video)
The Black Moods is an American hard rock power trio from Tempe, Arizona, active since 2012. To date, they have released several EPs and five studio albums. Their sound is a mix of classic rock (Led Zeppelin, AC/DC) and a touch of grunge. "Time Bomb" is their new single, released a week ago, and likely heralds a new album that is currently untitled. Catchy guitar riffs with aggressive, slightly poppy vocals and a chorus, paired with raw rock energy.
Rowland Dark - Dead Radio
Rowland Dark is an American musician from Los Angeles. He is an indie artist who has been creating and releasing his own music—essentially DIY—since 2022. So far, he has released several singles, one EP, and two albums. He’s a new name to me. He’s more active in the local LA music scene in the darkwave and synthpop genres, with a retro, dark, atmospheric, and danceable ’80s sound, featuring synthesizers, cool melodies, and melancholic vocals. The song 'Dead Radio' is a single from his latest album, X Songs, which was released a week ago, and is also a cover and tribute to a song by Australian post-punk/gothic rock guitarist Rowland S. Howard of the band The Birthday Party. The original song is slow, acoustic, very personal, and melancholic, while the cover is an upbeat, electronic, synth-pop dance version.
Now let’s take a quick look at AI music and see what’s going on there. Believe it or not, there’s a ton of it on YouTube. If you pick an AI track, you’ll get a whole bunch of songs and artists you’ve never heard of added to your playlist, and all of that is waiting for you the next time you visit. Well, AI has become part of the music world, and I’ve come across a few songs like that. If nothing else, they’re actually interesting; they showcase the creators’ innovation, of course, if you view AI as a tool for creation. If not, then you’ve got a problem :)
Asbestos Acute Tinnitus - Xartyga (official video)
The project is a hobby experiment, generated entirely by artificial intelligence, as a sort of "proof of concept." It was created by Reddit user United-Society7502. The combination uses Gemini, Suno, Nano Banana, LTX-2.3, and KlingAI. What drew me to this project is the very impressive synchronization; the playing of instruments and the hand movements are extremely precise in relation to the music, which is a mix of industrial rock and electronica with a strong beat, distorted vocals, and an unusual, dystopian-futuristic atmosphere. What I like most is the comment that says:
I hate that it’s AI and that I like it :)
Mind's Eye Collective - Blue Lotus
Mind's Eye Collective is an experimental music project that blends downtempo and trip-hop with hypnotic Eastern and Mediterranean influences (bouzouki, ethnic elements, cinematic atmosphere); the artist hails from Greece. It is not a classic "band" with live members on stage, but rather an electronic project that uses AI tools to generate music. So far, they have released a few singles and last year's album, Tehran. The project is in its early stages but is quickly gaining attention in the downtempo scene due to its unique blend of AI and exotic sounds. The song Blue Lotus is a hypnotic, downtempo, trip-hop track inspired by the ancient Egyptian blue lotus flower, which was known for its calming, psychedelic, and spiritual effects. AI will (among other things) also help us relax - that would be my take on it :)
🎶 That should be all for today, thanks for your attention, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!
