The summer heat, a gentle breeze, and a cold beer in my hand. Plus, new music from well-known, lesser-known, and (as yet) unknown artists. That’s all I need.
Inspiral Carpets, Nothing But Thieves, Hermanos Gutiérrez, YĪN YĪN, ÖLÜM, Marilyn Manson, Voodoo Queen, Split Dogs.

Inspiral Carpets - There's A Better Way
Inspiral Carpets are an English band from Oldham. They have been playing since 1983. They have released five albums, the most recent in 2014. They are known for their Farfisa organ sound, distorted guitars, and indie rock. The song “There’s a Better Way” is a preview of their upcoming album, their first in 12 years, Burn Like The Sun, which will be released in early 2027. Genre-wise, it leans toward Britpop, but remains true to their classic sound.
Nothing But Thieves - Stray Dogs (Live at Finsbury Park)
Nothing But Thieves is an English band formed in 2012 in Essex. They play alternative/indie/hard rock with elements of pop-rock, intense vocals, dynamic guitars, and often experimental or politically and socially charged lyrics. To date, they have released four studio albums. Their fifth album, titled Stray Dogs, is set to be released in late September of this year. The song “Stray Dogs” is the lead single from the upcoming album; it was recorded live two weeks ago at Finsbury Park in London, where they performed as guests of Billy Clyro.
Hermanos Gutiérrez - Los Ojos Del Cóndor
Hermanos Gutiérrez is an instrumental duo with Swiss-Ecuadorian roots, founded in Zurich in 2015. Their music is instrumental—without vocals—and blends Latin, Andean, and spaghetti-western influences. Their intimate, interwoven guitar playing creates atmospheric, cinematic, and evocative soundscapes. To date, they have released six studio albums. The song “Los Ojos Del Cóndor” (The Eyes of the Condor) is the title track and single from their new, seventh album, Canto Andino, produced by Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) for his label Easy Eye Sound.
YĪN YĪN - Lecker Song
YĪN YĪN is a Dutch band from Maastricht. They were formed in 2017 and have released four albums to date. Their style is an eclectic mix of psychedelia, funk, disco, surf, and Southeast Asian music. They use vintage synthesizers and traditional instruments (such as the guzheng) to create instrumental, cinematic, dance, and atmospheric music—a sort of “cosmic disco” with Eastern motifs. “Lecker Song” is a single from their latest album, Yatta!, released this past January; it’s an energetic, danceable, and cinematic track.
ÖLÜM - Yılan Kadın (Snake Woman)
ÖLÜM (Turkish for “death”) is a band of Anatolian/Turkish origin based in Los Angeles. They formed in 2024 and have released several singles so far. They’re a new band to me. They’re trying to revive the golden age of Anatolian rock (roughly 1962–1982) using fuzz guitars, analog synthesizers, and Farfisa organs. It’s a mix of Turkish folk melodies and psychedelic rock. The song “Yılan Kadın” is their new single, released a week ago—a feverish psychedelic vision infused with the energy of Turkish psychedelia.
Marilyn Manson - Front Toward Enemy
Marilyn Manson is an American singer, songwriter, and frontman of the band of the same name, founded in 1989. He is known for his controversial image, shocking performances, dark and provocative lyrics, theatricality, and a mix of industrial beats, heavy guitars, gothic elements, and, at times, glam or experimental influences. He has released 12 studio albums. The song “Front Toward Enemy” is a single from his new, thirteenth album, One Assassination Under God – Chapter 2, which is set to be released this August. It’s aggressive, industrial metal rock with heavy guitar riffs.
Voodoo Queen - Bright Cage
Voodoo Queen is a French fuzz blues rock/heavy rock band from La Rochelle. Formed in 2023, they have released one studio album to date. They’re a new name to me. They play a mix of heavy metal, progressive rock, and blues. Powerful female vocals take center stage, backed by heavy guitar riffs and bluesy rhythms. They’ve been very popular at heavy rock festivals over the past two years thanks to their raw rock energy and intense live performances. The song “Bright Cage” is the second single from their debut album, Violet Crown.
SPLIT DOGS - SUFFER
Split Dogs are a British band from Bristol that formed during the COVID lockdown in 2020. They’ve released three studio albums. Angry and energetic, sleazy, with influences from garage rock, punk, and classic rock ’n’ roll. They’re a new discovery for me, too. I’ll be keeping an eye on them. The song “Suffer” is from their latest album, Nice’n’Rough, which was released last week. It’s garage and punk with darker, atmospheric tones.
