It's a Friday and time for #newtunes! A fresh selection of music featuring well-known, lesser-known, and even unknown artists who are trying to get a few minutes of our time. Is there even a future global hit among them? You won't know until you listen :)

Opus Kink - Come Over, Do Me Wrong
Opus Kink is an English band from Brighton, UK. They’ve been playing since 2017 and have released three EPs. A new band for me. They started out as a jazz band but quickly shifted to a gritty mix of punk, jazz, country, and cabaret. The horn section gives their music a unique, chaotic, and jazzy character. The song 'Come Over, Do Me Wrong' is the lead single for their debut studio album, The Sweet Goodbye. A funky post-punk mix of tension and energy. I’ll be keeping an eye on them; they seem like one of the most original British bands I’ve heard lately.
Jack White: G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs (Live) - SNL
Jack White (White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and others) has been performing as a solo artist since 2012. Garage rock, blues, country, experimental sounds, and a DIY ethos still define his work. The song 'G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs' is, following six solo albums, a new single released a week ago, and performed live for the first time on SNL TV. It’s classic Jack White, featuring a powerful two-chord guitar riff, organ, and preacher-style vocals, telling an apocalyptic story that blends the beginning and the end of the world.
Kurt Vile - Chance to Bleed
Kurt Vile is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Philadelphia. He has been performing since 2003 and is also known as the founder of the band War On Drugs, which he later left to pursue a solo career, releasing nine studio albums. He is highly regarded in the indie scene for his laid-back, hypnotic “dazed and confused” style, featuring heavy guitar riffs and a lo-fi aesthetic. The song 'Chance to Bleed' is a preview of his new, tenth album, 'Philadelphia’s Been Good to Me,' set for release at the end of May. It features a groovy, easy rhythm, multiple guitars, and nostalgic lyrics about returning to the basics of creation.
GHINZU - Snow White (Official Video)
Ghinzu is a Belgian band from Brussels. They have been playing since 1999 and have released three studio albums to date. They are known for their eclectic sound, which blends indie, art, noise, and groovy elements. After seventeen years, they’ve released a new single, 'Snowy White,' which serves as a preview for their fourth album, W.O.W.A. (When Other Worlds Await), scheduled for late May. The song is a dynamic triptych that explores various addictions.
HEADSEND - Do Do
Headsend is a young Australian rock trio formed in 2024; so far, they have released one EP, Angel Glands, featuring five tracks, in late March of this year. Their sound is rooted in ’90s grunge and nostalgic indie rock. They quickly won over audiences with their captivating, energetic live performances. A new band for me. The song 'Do Do' is a single from the EP, a raw yet polished, modern grunge sound that gets stuck in your head and won’t let go for a while. Pure rock, if you ask me. Someone described them as 'Qotsa, Interpol, and Nirvana had a beautiful baby' :)
Waagal - Rising || Handpan Didgeridoo Synth Asalato Neotone Multitasking One man Band
I’ve always liked one-man bands, especially when I’ve heard them live. Last week I came across this one. Waagal, or Erwann Texier-Harth, is a French multi-instrumentalist and one-man band from Bordeaux. Since 2014, he has been creating unique world-fusion music that blends various ethnic and contemporary elements, including the handpan, didgeridoo, asalato, kalimba, synthesizers, throat singing, and more. He plays multiple instruments simultaneously, creating a rich and hypnotic sound. To date, he has released several EPs and four albums. The song 'Rising' is a new standalone single, released at the end of March. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on him.
Jon Spencer - Knock 'Em Out
Jon Spencer is an American musician, singer, and guitarist, and is considered an icon of garage rock. I’ve been following him since his early days in 1985 when he played in the noise rock band Pussy Galore, and from 1991 to 2016 as the explosive blues/rock/punk trio Jon Spencer Blues Explosion; I’ve seen him live three times, most recently about six years ago with the band HITmakers. Across all his projects, he has released more than 20 albums. The song 'Knock 'Em Out' is a preview of his new solo album, Songs of Personal Loss and Protest, which is set to be released in June. To me, it sounds like the old Blues Explosion - still that unstoppable energy and rage, wrapped up in rock'n'garage'n'punk. I'm looking forward to the album.
I'm Waiting for the Man - The Velvet Underground Live 1969 (4K)
And finally, something a bit old-school: one of the rare recordings of The Velvet Underground from 1969. The AnalogAnarchy channel combined audio recorded at the End of Cole Ave club in Dallas on October 19 with 8mm film footage from October 15, 1969, at the Dallas Peace Moratorium, a protest against the Vietnam War. Since the original performance at the protest didn’t have synchronized audio, they created a sync - the song matches up very well (based on lip-reading and comparing the performances). The result is a 4K remaster (upscaled and processed for modern resolution), which gives the feeling of watching a real live performance from the 1960s in high quality. As a longtime fan, I think it’s awesome! :)
