Beer Tasting: Monarch and Klaas
Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
How do you spend your weekend? Mine has been very work-intensive so far. I started yesterday, in a snowstorm, when a colleague and I loaded a truck with construction timber and drove to my plot on the island of Pag. Today, it is a sunny day with no clouds. It was a great day, and I realized my goals, except for a tiny thing.
We were back in the evening, and now I had two cans my colleague had bought in a shop. After all, it's #beersaturday, 386 in a row; I've done a great job, and why not open a can?
Klaas Lager Bier
This is the first beer for which I don't have precise information, except that it is Austrian and brewed for the Mercator chain in Slovenia, Serbia, and Montenegro, and the Konzum chain in Croatia. It's a lager beer, so says the can.
The beer is yellow, has a lot of head, and disappears quickly. It has no smell. It goes down the throat smoothly, and there is no taste in the mouth except for some sweetness, I suspect from the curd. It is watery. Nothing in the aftertaste. In short, it completely sucks. I didn't drink the whole thing.
I cannot help wondering what they are selling as beer. But it's true, as the colleague who bought us this and the next one boasted to me that he had never seen a cheaper beer in the shop, €0.59.
Let's move forward!
As I mentioned at the beginning of yesterday, my colleague and I loaded the construction timber for my new caravan carport onto a truck in a snowstorm. Since it was snowing, here's a photo of our first snowfall.
I was skeptical about today. The forecast was good, but you never know after a snowfall. But it was great weather. In the morning, we set off towards the island, and the sky was cloudless. It was a beautiful view.
It was a great day.
Monarch Premium Lager
Also, the only thing I know about this beer is that it is brewed in Austria for the shops mentioned above and is a bit more expensive but still very cheap, €0.64. Probably because of the higher alcohol content. Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5% ABV, IBU N/A.
Master brewers unknown.
The beer is yellow, and the head is solid but disappears quickly. It is odorless. A sip goes down the throat smoothly. There is a little sweetness and a taste of corn, and that's it. Nothing in the aftertaste.
Both beers are typical examples of industrial beers for which we do not even know the origin, brewed quickly, at little cost, with the addition of corn, and with the intention of selling as soon as possible. Although very cheap, it is not worth the price. I don't know how much of this crap they sell, but if I were in charge of selling beer in these rather supermarkets (which, of course, I am not), I would take it off the shelves...
I refrained from commenting; I didn't need to open a front with my colleague and tell him what he had bought... mainly because he did me a favor and was very helpful all day.
And what am I listening to when tasting beers and writing this? Something from yesterday's #newtunes post. An icon.
