Beer Tasting: Jacobsen Brown Ale & Saperlot Juicy Fog

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻

The season of good weather is coming to an end, but I have some outdoor activities that I fear I will have to postpone for at least ten days or even until spring. I am not in the best of moods because not everything is going according to plan, and I need something to calm me down. Thank God it's #beersaturday today!

I had two cans, two different styles of beer, one Danish and one Croatian, on the balcony because it was pretty cold outside, and there was no need for a fridge. I'll be happy to open them and share the secrets with you :) 😜

First, the one with less alcohol.

🍻 😎 🍻

Jacobsen Brown Ale

Brewed by Husbryggeriet Jacobsen (Carlsberg), Valby, Denmark. Can, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.0% ABV, 23 IBU. It's Brown Ale style beer, malty, brown caramel ale without the roasted flavors as a Porter.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Inspired by the English brown ale style, this ale has a fruity character. The flavor is complex with exciting roasted notes. The deep brown color is reminiscent of mahogany. To describe the smell, we have to go to the world of wine, where it is reminiscent of the Sauvignon Blanc grape.

🍺

Beer smells like wine? Interesting...

The beer is brown and has a tiny head. It has no particular smell for me, although the master brewers mention Sauvignon Blanc grapes. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and the sweetness of malt and caramel is first on the palate, just enough for the bitterness of the hops and the hints of chocolate in the background. In the aftertaste, everything quickly disappears except for a discreet bitterness that lingers for a while.

It's a drinkable and delicious beer. It works to light, and other flavors successfully cover the 6% alcohol. It's not bad at all, but it's perfect for me. It's one of the better ones lately. Unfortunately, it's not available here; I bought it in Denmark. But I would love to have some more.

🍻 😎 🍻

Let's keep going!

Saperlot Juicy Fog

Brewed by Saperlot Craft Brewery, Varaždin, Croatia. Can, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.2% ABV, IBU 33. It's NEIPA, New England India Pale Ale or Hazy IPA style, beer brewed with American hops, intense in fruit flavors and aromas.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Juicy Fog is a beer with intense fruity aromas that leave a slightly sweet, creamy, and silky impression on the palate with a bit of bitterness and a semi-dry finish. In terms of appearance, this beer is cloudy, yellow to golden in color, and reminiscent of a juice or smoothie. It is often described as juicy, foggy, and opaque. In addition, Juicy Fog Neipa is characterized by its exceptional drinkability, so it's just crying out for more. :-)

🍺

The beer is cloudy golden in color, has little head, and smells of tropical fruits. It goes down the throat smoothly, and first I taste a pleasant fruity bitterness, pineapple, mango and grapefruit, with a discreet malty sweetness and caramel in the background. The fruity aromas and bitterness linger in the aftertaste for some time.

This is a very drinkable, juicy, and tasty beer - an excellent NEIPA! I would drink another one in a heartbeat. It's unavailable here but available in the Croatian Plodine chain and Croatian Lidl. I must get some for my fridge when I'm in Croatia. I should go next week but as the weather is going to be very bad and I have some work outside I won't go quite soon. But it's on my radar :)

🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to when tasting beers and writing this? Something from yesterday's #newtunes post. Something jazzy.

How are the micro brewers faring in Europe? Most of ours in Australia have been bought by the big Japanese companies and the rest have gone bust. A real shame. They struggled to get taps on pubs or just struggled to sell with a huge amount of competition, as well as losing the market post COVID when people stopped being able to afford more expensive craft beer.

I like a brown ale - they have a nice depth.

This looks fantastic! I will obviously as an IPA fan gravitate towards the second beer, but the first one also looks interesting. Not the biggest of brown ale fans, as the ones that I brewed never came out good and the ones I have tasted were nothing special. But nothing like a good beer when things are not always working out. Best of luck!

What does 15% Plato mean on the brown Ale? Does that have something to do with its color?
