ThreeTuneTuesday - Thievery Corporation
Hello music lovers! 🎵
How are you getting through this strange summer? It's hot and rainy here, almost like a typhoon, which we don't usually have here. And speaking of music, quite a few summer festivals have been canceled because of the floods. But let's leave it at that, today is Tuesday and a day for the #threetunetuesday post. The last one I posted two weeks ago and maybe is time for another one!
For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post. It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize.
Well, to continue, and since it's time for more summer and dance tunes, today I'd like to introduce the band Thievery Corporation, from Washington D.C., which I've been following since its beginnings in 1995.
The band is actually an electronic duo consisting of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, who produce on their own label Eighteenth Street Lounge, play live and mix various genres such as dub, acid jazz, reggae, bossa nova, and ethnic music from all continents. Both are DJs and are supported by many other musicians in their live performances and tours. They can also be said to be the leading exponents of chill-out, downtempo and lounge music styles.
So far they have released 10 studio albums where they have written and recorded the music themselves and nine DJ compilations where they have worked with different artists.
Thievery Corporation - Lebanese Blonde
Lebanese Blonde is one of their best-known hits, a single from 1998, added to the 2000 album The Mirror Conspiracy. The song has been used in several movies, the most famous being Garden State, directed by Zach Braff, a Grammy-winning romantic comedy. By the way: the name of the song is a reference to Lebanese hashish ...
Thievery Corporation - All That We Perceive
All That We Perceive is from the third album The Richest Man In Babylon from 2002. Vocals were contributed by Pam Bricker, (also for Lebanese Blonde), a music professor and jazz singer extraordinaire, who unfortunately committed suicide in 2005 ... later replaced by Elin Melgarejo.
Thievery Corporation - Warning Shots
Warning Shots is taken from the fourth album The Cosmic Game from 2005, with vocals by dancehall star Sleepy Wonder and Middle Eastern singer Gunjan.
And finally, a bonus, a KEXP.org performance clip, 30 minutes of great music and an interview
Thievery Corporation - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)
This is my 21st post for #threetunetuesday, which was started by @ablaze. I hope what I'm sharing is interesting for others too, because then it makes sense.
